Preparation Time : 15 minutes

Serves : 4 persons

Ingredients :

Fish : Standard pieces. 1/2 kg. Hilsa fish which is also known as Illish in some parts of India is perfect for this recipe.

Mustard seeds : 3 tablespoon

Green chillies : 6-7

Curd : 2 teaspoon

Oil : 4 tablespoon preferably mustard oil

Turmeric powder : 1/3 teaspoon

Small cardamon : 2

Ginger: 1/2 inch piece

Garlic : 3-4 cloves

Salt to taste.

Water: 1/2 cup

Method : Marinate the fish with salt and turmeric powder and keep aside. Grind the mustard seeds, 2 green chillies,  cardamon,  ginger and garlic into a paste by adding a liitle water.

Now in a bowl, mix the grinded paste and the curd and add the fish pieces, mustard oil and rest green chillies cut into slit. The fish pieces should be evenly coated with the mustard paste.

Now, place the fish pieces in an aluminium foil and steam for 10 minutes on a double boiler over flame or cook in a steamer.

Open the foil just before serving. Serve hot with rice.
