A most loved sweet dish in India is Sweet Vermicelli Payasam, but for diabetics its often a no no! For all who loves vermicelli, try out this savory dish. Perfect for Breakfast as well as for snacking!


Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Serves: 3-4 persons

Vermicelli/ Sevwaiyan: 200 grams/ 1 small Packet.
Grated Carrots: 2 tablespoon
Sliced Capsicum/ Bell Peppers : 2 tablespoon
1 medium sized onion chopped
Boiled/ Thawed Frozen Peas: 2 tablespoon
Coriander/ Dhania leaves: 2 tablespoon chopped
Green Chilli 1 teaspoon chopped (optional)
Garam Masala/ Chicken Masala Powder: 1 teaspoon
Jeera/ Cumin Powder: 1 teaspoon
Lemon Juice: 2 teaspoon
Ginger Garlic Paste: 1 teaspoon (optional)
Salt to taste.
Black Mustard Seeds: 1/2 teaspoon
Refined/ Olive Oil: 3 tablespoon
Water as required.


In a Frying Pan, add 1 and a half tablespoon oil and add the vermicelli. Fry for around 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Now take the vermicelli out in a plate and keep aside.

In the same Pan, heat rest of the oil and add the Black Mustard Seeds. Wait till it crackles and now add the Ginger Garlic Paste. Saute for 30 seconds and add the onions, carrots and peas. Add Salt, Garam Masala/ Chicken Masala Powder and the Jeera/ Cumin Powder. Cover and cook for two minutes. Now add the capsicum and chopped green chilli. Mix well and add the fried Vermicelli as we do not want the capsicum to be over cooked. Saute for 2-3 minutes so that the vermicelli is mixed well with the vegetables. Now add 2 cups of water or enough water so that the vermicelli is soaked well. Now, Cover the lid and cook until the water is evaporated cooking the vermicelli. Now add the lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves.

Serve Hot with tomato ketchup!
