Banana Chips are my favorite munchies whether watching a cricket match or while reading a book. Rather than regular Potato chips, I have a craze for banana chips which I believe are more healthier. The same recipe can be substituted with carrots or sweet potatoes. Crunch guaranteed!
Preparation Time : 15 minutes
Serves : 4-6 persons
Raw bananas / Pura kol / Kash kol : 6
Pepper powder / Kali mirch/ Jalukor guri : 1/2 teaspoon
Chat Masala : 1/2 teaspoon
Asafoetida / Hing : 1/4 teaspoon
Refined oil / Coconut oil for deep frying
Water as required
Salt : 1/2 teaspoon
Peel the skin of the bananas. Wash and dry with a kitchen towel.
Heat oil in a pan or kadhai for frying the banana Chips.
In a small bowl, take 1/2 cup water. Stir in the salt and hing. Mix well and keep aside.
Using a grater cum slicer, slice the raw bananas into fine chips. You can use a knife and cut it finely in case you don’t have a slicer. Fry the chips in batches by putting it in the hot oil. Immediately after putting the chips in the hot oil, sprinkle the salted water 2-3 times to the hot oil.
It will create a fluttering sound and will make the chips crisp. Fry till golden brown and drain excess oil in a kitchen towel. Similarly fry the rest of chips in batches. Once done sprinkle with chat masala and pepper powder. Toss well.
Serve with a cup of tea or coffee. You can also store these chips in an air-tight container for about a week.
