Broken Wheat is a healthy breakfast, lunch or dinner substitute for Rice or Roti. This Dalia Pulao recipe is health in a bowl with an interesting twist if you are bored of Dalia Khichdi or porridge. Perfect diet food for health checkers!
Preparation Time : 20 minutes
Serves : 4 persons
Broken Wheat / Dalia / Lapsi : 2 cups
Water : 4 cups
Refined / Olive oil : 3 tablespoons
Vegetables : 1 cup, cut into small pieces (*You can use a combination of carrots, beans, peas, cauliflower, capsicum etc)
Green chili : 2, chopped
Onion : 2, finely chopped
Garlic : 3 cloves, finely chopped
Turmeric / Haldi powder : 1/4 teaspoon
Garam Masala powder : 1 teaspoon
Salt as per taste
Lemon juice : 3 tablespoons
Pepper powder : 1/2 teaspoon
Spring onions : 1/2 cup, chopped (optional)
Lemon wedge : for garnish
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a kadhai or pan, add the Dalia and slightly toast for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and keep aside to cool down.
In the same pan, heat the rest of oil. Add the green chillies, garlic and onion. Sauté till transculsent. Add in the turmeric, salt and chopped vegetables. Sauté for 3-4 minutes and add the spring onions.
Add in the roasted Dalia.Mix well and 4 cups of water. *For every 1 cup of Dalia, 2 cups of water is required. Cover and cook until the water completely evaporates and the Dalia is cooked. Add in the Lemon juice and pepper powder. Mix well.
Garnish with spring onion and lemon wedge. Serve hot with raita or papad.
